PULSA PROMOTES LIFE IN THE FAST LANE

Top class projects require top class tools and ITW’s Spit Pulsa 700E cordless nailer is helping contractors race to the finish in a marathon project at Discovery Dock in east London where construction of 191 luxury apartments over 23 floors is underway.

Ellis Mechanical, part of Laing O'Rourke, is responsible for fixing metal fittings such as trunking and pipework brackets to the building's concrete frame. Using Spit PULSA nailers, which can fire up to 2 nails per second, they are progressing at a far greater speed than they would if using conventional fixing methods and so are making considerable savings in time on site.

At 3.6kg the Spit Pulsa 700E is the lightest cordless gas-powered fixing tool available yet it has a powerful linear combustion engine and innovative design which facilitates comfortable use all day. As well as being lightweight, Pulsa 700E is compact, well balanced and ergonomically designed so that it is comfortable and easy to use for long stretches overhead and in restricted areas.

Because the Pulsa 700E is cordless it can be used in areas where power is not available and its electronic fuel injection means that it will fire optimally in temperatures as lows as -5°c. Its cordless design also enhances mobility and makes the Spit PULSA safer to use than tools with trailing leads.  The battery has a one hour charge time and will fire approximately 1,000 nails before needing to be recharged. A spare battery is provided with each tool.  A complete range of accessories for fixing cables and wires is also available.

NEW HAMMER SCREW IS A HIT ON SITE

Anchors and fixings specialist ITW Construction Products is updating and improving its range of hammer screws with the launch of the all new Spit Hit M, a new version of the classic Spit Hit range designed to give improved performance and easier installation.

Spit Hit M is perfect for a wide variety of fixing tasks around site as it performs well on a variety of substrates including concrete and masonry. It is particularly useful in situations where the fixing needs to be demountable as the Spit Hit M anchor can be simply removed using a screwdriver. The anchor can be fixed in a pre-drilled hole in two ways, either by simply tapping in with a hammer or screwed in using a screwdriver to expand the specially designed sleeve.

The Spit Hit M’s designed in features make it an exceptionally secure anchor. A longer thread and M-Slot design improves expansion in a variety of substrates while a break in the thread formation at the tip of the screw is designed to avoid pre-expansion – the first hit will drive the anchor, only the second will cause the expansion.

The sleeve head has also been designed with optimum performance in mind and it is reinforced to prevent breakage during setting. Two locking tips improve hold in shallow embedment applications while two fins provide extra grip on the base material. Extra grip is also provided by the grooves at the tip of the sleeve which are designed to improve hanging in light, friable materials.

Spit Hit M is sure to find thousands of light fixing applications on sites across the UK including fixing battening, beading, skirting boards, door frames, brackets, trunking, angle trim, collars, electrical shutter rails and many more.

It is available from good fixings suppliers nationwide. Users can find their nearest stockist and find out more about the new Spit Hit M system by calling 0141 342 1660.

SPIT WINNER DRIVES AWAY IN STYLE

‘Over the moon’ may be a cliché but it pretty accurately describes how site supervisor Julion Rising felt when he won a brand new Ford Transit van, a new Pulsa 700E cordless nailer and a year’s worth of fixings in the Spit Pulsa competition from ITW Construction Products.

Julion, who works for Cheltenham-based DAF Electrical Contractors, was the lucky winner of the Pulsa 700E competition run by ITW to promote the industry leading cordless nailer. All he had to do was request a demonstration of the Pulsa 700E tool from his local representative and was entered in the competition.

“When I got the phone call to say I had won, I thought it was a hoax,” jokes a jubilant Julion. It was only when he phoned up his local ITW representative that he believed that he was a winner. He was presented with his new van at a special ceremony at ITW’s Swindon offices.

The new Pulsa 700E cordless nailer from ITW has been specifically designed for electricians to carry out their most common fixing tasks more efficiently and effectively, reducing fixing times on a wide variety of common tasks by up to 75%.  Slow and laborious drill and screw fixing should become a thing of the past, and saving time and money on site.

Julion was so impressed with the 700E that, after the demonstration, DAF purchased four of the tools and has used them on a major project in Bristol. The clincher was the range of fixings and fittings designed especially for the electrical trade. Instead of drilling, plugging and screwing, DAF’s teams used the Pulsa 700E tools and special ITW cable clips to install lighting, power and fire alarm systems. As well as being considerably faster – a few hours instead of two days to complete a twenty-metre corridor – there were significant saving on fixings.
